Rabun County is Slowly, but Surely, getting back to Normal

It’s Monday, and Rabun County is slowly getting back to a normal routine after a taste of Winter Storm Jonas found its way to North Georgia and the Western Carolina’s.

According to the National Weather Service Greenville/Spartanburg, Clayton received an estimated 8.9 inches of snow, with some of the higher elevated areas of Rabun County receiving as much as a foot of snow. Habersham, Towns and White Counties also received snow, but did not receive as much.

Despite the effort that the Rabun County Roads Department, Rabun County EMA, and Georgia Department of Transportation has put in to ensure that the roads are safe for driving, Rabun County Schools will be closed today, due to the fact that some roads are still covered in ice, due to lack of direct sunlight being able to melt it away. So, if you wake up this morning, and see that your driveway, or roads that you would drive on in your normal commute are still covered in snow or ice, please stay at home, and try again tomorrow. We at Sky 963 and Real Country 100.3 would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to clear the roads, and for keeping everyone safe.

The storms of Thursday and Friday caused many residents of Rabun County to lose power a time or two, some outages affecting over 1,000 customers at times, especially on Saturday, when the ice accumulation combined with high winds. It has been reported that all Georgia Power customers, as well as Habersham EMC members have been restored of power.

Again, Rabun County Schools, as well as Habersham County schools will be closed today, due to some roads that are still deemed impassable due to ice and/or downed trees
