Rabun County declares State of Emergency

The National Weather Service predicts that an arctic blast of extremely frigid temperatures and wind gusts will impact Rabun County beginning on Thursday, December 22, 2022.  Projected precipitation with a dangerously cold climate and temperatures projected.  Temperatures below freezing for at least 72 hours across the county create the potential for black ice formation.  Wind gusts of more than 20 miles per hour are forecasted to accompany the cold front and could exacerbate potential property damage, including downed trees and powerlines.  To prevent or minimize injury to the citizens and visitors of Rabun County and reduce damage to property resulting from this winter weather event, Rabun County has declared a local state of emergency exists and is running concurrently with the state of emergency declared by Governor Brian Kemp.  The Rabun County Office of Emergency Management has activated the county emergency operations plan and further ordered that the emergency management ordinances adopted by the Rabun County Board of Commissioners be operative.  If needed, a warming station will be available at Clayton Baptist Church if there are power outages in the county and residents do not have any other means of warming.
