Rabun County Commissioners approve Contracts

Two contracts were recently approved by the Rabun County Board of Commissioners.  The first is a contract with Tom Adams Construction for the Rabun County Golf Clubhouse, explains Rabun County Administrator Darrin Giles.  “The project was bid out a year and a half ago. Basically, it came in over budget, so we had to do some value engineering on the project and get it down into a budget that the county could afford.  So, we basically cut out a lot of things on the inside of the building, nothing structurally and went back to the low bidder, who was Tom Adams, and see if he was willing to do the job for that price and he was.  So, we just basically approved the contract to start the pro-shop at the county golf course.” The contract with Tom Adams Construction is for $863,000. Giles said the second contract is for 2.54 acres of land located at 50 Bettys Creek Road in Dillard for a new fire station.  “That property is across the road from our current EMS and Fire Station in Dillard. For ISO and safety reasons it can only be a certain distance from that spot, so we searched around the Dillard area to try to find another piece of property. That property, since it had water and sewer there and had already been graded, we chose to purchase that spot for the future firehouse and EMS in Dillard.  That building is manned 24/7, so that was the reason for the purchase of that property.” That contract was for a little over $316,000. Money for both contracts is coming from SPLOST and the fund balance.
