Rabun County cheers Visitors

Cheers could be heard throughout Rabun County this past weekend as over 2,000 visitors were in town for a competition.  The event was hosted by the Rabun County Recreation Department, explains Athletic Director Adam Dixon. “Well, last Sunday we had the Cheer Bowl, which is the North Georgia Youth Football Association Cheer Bowl and they have that every year.  We have two divisions; a competition division and a sideline division. This is for young ladies that are cheerleaders in our league. The ages are 5 to 13. It was an amazing event. We probably had, we’re guessing, probably 2,000 people over at the middle and high school.  The middle school gym was used as a warmup gym and the high school gym was where the event was held. We were almost overwhelmed because we weren’t expecting the crowd that we had but it was great. The high school cheerleaders helped and without them, we couldn’t have done it.  Our staff was great but those young ladies and their cheer coach, Kristina Webber. We are going to present them with a donation to the Booster Club.” Amy Martin, Administrative Assistant for the Rabun County Recreation Department, also thanked everyone for their help with the event.  “I believe we had about 12 agencies in the Cheer Bowl and like Adam said we had an easy 2,000 people in Rabun County for that Sunday. We would also like to thank the Rabun County School System for allowing us to use their facility. It took every bit of room that the middle school and the high school had to offer to host this event.”  The 2,000 visitors ate and shopped in town during the competition, which benefitted Rabun County’s economy.
