Rabun County Assisting Oconee County Emergency Services

Rabun County Search and Rescue is assisting the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and Haywood County, NC Sheriff’s Office in efforts to locate an adult male that was reported missing over the weekend.

The male’s vehicle was found late Monday in the Cherry Hill/Big Bend area of northern Oconee County by family members. A search began shortly after daylight this morning in the wooded area near the Chattooga River. Teams currently searching on foot with the assistance of area canine groups. An airplane from the SC Forest Service is in the area searching as well, weather currently does not allow helicopters to fly.

There are currently 32 personnel supporting the search effort with that number expected to double throughout the day. Oconee County Emergency Services have requested assistance from Pickens, Anderson, and Glenville-Cashiers (NC), in addition to Rabun County. These agencies will provide additional rescue personnel to help cover the area.
