Rabun Co. Schools on Level 2 of COVID Tiered Protocol

With rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in the community, the Rabun County School System has gone to Level 2 of their COVID tiered protocol, says Superintendent Dr. April Childers.  “We’re taking it day by day with safety being the most important thing to prove a safe learning environment and a safe work environment for our employees.  We currently have 39 active cases and that is among students and adults.  Three of our schools are on Tier 2 of our COVID plan, which means that they went to more restrictive practices last week, including highly recommending masks being worn, using common areas less often, social distancing as much as possible, enhanced cleanings, and those sorts of things.  The middle school and high school will both continue on Tier 2 next week and we will reevaluate on September 16.  The elementary school is going to continue, not because of the numbers, but just because last year we saw an increase of cases each time we were out for a holiday.  Since we have been out for Labor Day, just to be extra precautious, the elementary school is going to remain on Tier 2 an extra week until we see if we have more cases because of travel and all during the Labor Day holiday.”  Keep your child home from school if they are sick, adds Dr. Childers.  “That is our number one defense.  We really need everybody to help us out.  If your child is not feeling well, keep them at home.  If anybody in the house is positive or being tested, all children need to stay at home during that time.  That is the Department of Public Health’s requirement that all children in the house must quarantine if there is a positive adult or child but especially if they are sick, we need you to keep them at home and if they are being tested you have to keep them at home until you get the results.  Please don’t send them back to school while you are waiting on COVID results.”  Rabun County Schools COVID response protocol during the school year is based on the current community spread of COVID and current cases within a classroom or school.  Current data will be reviewed daily.  Protocols are subject to change as guidance and mandates are continually evolving.
