Rabun Co. Rec thankful for Volunteer Coaches

With Thanksgiving later this month, Adam Dixon, Athletic Director of the Rabun County Recreation Department is thankful for the volunteer coaches that did such a great job teaching kids about football and cheerleading this fall.  “We wrapped up our football and cheer seasons this past weekend.  No real injuries and I think the kids learned a lot.  We had a successful season of learning the sports.  The cheerleaders went to the Cheer Bowl again a couple of age groups so that was neat to see them do some competing.  I really appreciate all my volunteer coaches.  They put up with a lot and they spend a lot of time with these young people trying to teach them what they know.  So, it’s kind of a thankless job but I know years in the future they’ll look back and remember the good and forget the bad.  So, I really appreciate those men and women that give their time to help these young people out.”  The Rabun County Rec still has openings for youth basketball coaches, adds Dixon.  “I still need some coaches in 12U boys and possibly 10U girls and 12U girls, so I am looking for some coaches where we can finish out our drafts and start practices for basketball.  We will start games in early December.  Picture Day will be December 3.”  To learn more about volunteering to coach youth basketball, call the Rabun County Rec at 706-782-4600 or visit them at 400 Rabun Park Drive in Tiger.
