Rabun Co. Rec ready to start Football and Cheerleading

Registration has concluded and the Rabun County Recreation Department is ready to start football and cheerleading seasons this fall, says Athletic Director Adam Dixon.  “So, right now we have football and cheerleading going on.  Just finished registration and hoping for a normal season.”  Dixon says numbers are down slightly due to the coronavirus pandemic.  “Looks like for now, we’re set to start practicing pretty soon and games will begin on September 12, right after the holiday and we’re hoping that does happen.  Our numbers are down, understandable so, probably about a fourth and I would say league-wide kind of the same thing, very few are up to their numbers of a normal year.”  Once again this year, the Rabun County Recreation Department’s football and cheerleading games will be played at Rabun County High School, continues Dixon.  “Looks like we will have four football teams; 7U, 8U, 9U, and 11U.  We’ve had to combine a couple of ages.  Then cheerleading will be the same, we will have a cheer squad for each football team.  That’s always fun.  We play on Saturdays and we do travel out of town to all over North Georgia and our home games are played over at Frank Snyder Memorial Stadium at  Rabun County High School.  So, obviously we have a great place to play our home games and it’s a fun time for the kids.”  To learn more about recreational activities in Rabun County, visit http://www.rabuncountyrecreation.com/.
