Rabun Co. Rec ready to host State Basketball Tournaments

Despite all the obstacles of COVID-19, the Rabun County Recreation Department still managed to get through another youth basketball season, says Athletic Director Adam Dixon.  “Our youth basketball has kind of wrapped up the regular season this past weekend and believe it or not, it went semi-smooth.  We made it through, we didn’t play as many games probably as we normally would because of postpones and cancellations but thank goodness we got through it.”  Now the Rabun County Rec is gearing up for district and state basketball tournaments, adds Dixon.  “We’re starting up our All-star season which will last until around the end of February and then we will host a couple of state tournaments the first weekend of March.  So throughout February, we’ve got tournaments in town and out of town.  So, during a normal year I’d really be bragging on us bringing in four tournaments but this year I’m nervously bragging on us.  We have a 10u girls’ and 10u boys’ tournament for District 7 at the Recreation Department Feb. 26-27, and then the next weekend we will be hosting those two tournaments for the state level, March 6-7.  So, it’s kind of the showcase of youth basketball for the Georgia Parks and Rec so we were lucky enough to get two of the bigger tournaments.  That’s always good for Rabun County, brings folks in and shows them what we have.”  Once again, the district tournaments for 10u boys and girls will be on Feb. 26-27, and the state basketball tournaments are scheduled for March 6-7, in the same age groups.
