Rabun Co. Rec Cross Country Team wins 3 Medals in First Meet

The Rabun County Recreation Department’s Cross Country Team won three medals at its first meet of the season on Saturday, August 27, 2022.  Rabun County Rec Athletic Director Adam Dixon says it was a great day for local youth runners.  “It was a great day down in Athens.  The weather was great.  Coach Ed Eidson and Holly Henry-Perry is his helper this year. She is a parent of one of our runners, but they do such a great job with these kids and the kids have bought in and the parents have bought in.  They work really hard.  They practice down here at the Rec Department several days a week and they are out here running when it is super hot and I think that prepares them for these meets on Saturdays.  They do a good job of having a balance of fun and hard work.  We actually had some top finishers.  Kai Wagner was first place in the 8U, Allegra Perry was tenth place in 8U, and Adlynn Hollifield was tenth place in 10U.  We also had a lot of kids that did their personal best, so that is really always what you are racing against is yourself in these running and individual sports.  It is great to win a medal and it is great to win, but when you can outdo what you have done, your best time, that is always your goal is to improve.  They do great.  We are proud of Ed and his staff and what they do for us.  This is our second season of cross country at the rec level.  We were kind of wondering if we would have participation, it’s grown probably by a fourth this second year.  So, we love it when there is a success story to tell about one of our new programs or new sports.”  The Rabun County Rec Cross Country Team will host a meet this year at the new course located at Rabun County High School.
