Qualifications for local political races end Friday

RABUN COUNTY — Although qualifyings end Friday at noon, there is still time to put your name in the hat to run in the upcoming political races.

Multiple positions are up for election this year including chairs on the Rabun County Board of Commissioners (RCBC). Post 4, currently held by Commissioner Bob Fink, have two individuals thus far who have qualified — Republicans Kim Gurtler and Kent Woerner. The second seat available on the RCBC Post 5, currently held by Commissioner Kay Darnell, also have two qualified — Republican Scott Crane and Democrat Deidre Howell.

Tallulah Falls Council is also participating in the elections in the hopes of replacing former councilman Bill Coldren after he resigned earlier in the year. According to Rabun County Board of Elections Supervisor, two have qualified in that division, Republicans Carol Nelms and Paul Marsteller.

The Rabun County Board of Education also has two slots open; the Post 3 seat currently held by Betsy Smith which no one has yet qualified for, and the at-large-seat currently held by Curt Haban whom will likely run for reelection.

Also to qualify for reelection is Incumbent Magistrate Judge Al English.
