Protect Yourself From Pollen This Season

Spring is upon us, and those in Rabun County know that with the beautiful spring weather comes a heavy dose of pollen and other allergens. Dr. Timothy Scott Beck offers some tips to help fight the allergy season…

“The number one thing that I think is effective for this particular type of allergy season, is to get a nasal flushing system, because avoidance is your best bet when it comes to not having a reaction to some of the stuff in the air. They have them at the pharmacies here, I give them out in my office. That’s the first line of defense that I recommend for people. You can use that twice, two or three times a day, to keep your nasal passages and everything clear.”

Dr. Beck says he uses another method to fight allergies…

“Number two, from a medicinal standpoint, you can get antihistamines over the counter. I recommend antihistamines, I have to use antihistamines every once in a while. Mine, I use Claritin, cause it just works, doesn’t make me drowsy or anything else. There’s several of them on the market, including Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra, all of those work, reasonably about the same effectiveness.”

If those don’t do the trick, Beck says it could be a sign of an infection and that you should check in with your physician.
