Protect Pets from Fireworks

While people are enjoying fireworks on our nation’s Independence Day, they can be terrifying for pets. So, Everett Lampros, Public Relations Manager and Volunteer Coordinator at Rabun Paws 4 Life, says pets need extra protection on the 4th of July.  “I’ve grown up with dogs my whole life; I’ve had inside pets and outside pets and when you spend a lot of times with your animals you learn what kind of dog it is.  Some dogs are good for hunting and can handle gunshots but others a loud noise can really frighten it. So, they have vests and different things that can calm the animal.  I would probably put it inside and I have talked to people who turn up the TV volume or put their animals in a different section of the house while the fireworks are going on outside.  There are a number of different things that you can do and especially if you don’t know what your animal will do around fireworks I wouldn’t have it outside when the sun goes down. So, just keep your animals safe inside the house, especially if you don’t know how they will react to fireworks.”  Another pet danger is glow sticks.  People put glow stick jewelry on their pets, which is highly toxic to pets should they bite it or get that into their mouth.  The mission of Rabun Paws 4 Life is to make a positive difference in Rabun County by providing a no-kill animal control and shelter to care for and protect animals from abuse neglect and abandonment.
