Prescribed Fire in Union County

On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the Blue Ridge Ranger District will be conducting prescribed fire operations to improve wildlife habitat, enhance forest health, and remove hazardous fuels such as leaf litter, dead vegetation, and debris. The 35-acre Satterfield prescribed burn unit is located approximately 3 miles E of Blairsville, Ga. in Union County. The burn is expected to start around noon and last until approximately 3pm. The general forecast has favorable conditions for smoke dispersion, however motorists are advised to use caution along Highway 129 North. This prescribed fire is being conducted to restore native grasses and improve pollinator habitat.
