Potluck for Peace

A group of concerned citizens in Rabun County are hosting a Potluck for Peace event on Friday, April 22, 2022, to raise funds for a non-profit that is supplying free meals to Ukrainian refugees, says Mark Gould, one of the organizers.  “It is a potluck, so everyone please bring a covered dish over at Parker Ranch where we hope to raise money for the World Central Kitchen, an organization that started in, I think, 2010 where they would feed people at a disaster.  Right now, the World Central Kitchen is feeding people in Ukraine and has set up kitchens across all of Ukraine.”  Organizer Dana McFarland adds that there will be more at the event than just great food.  “We’re going to have live music.  There is going to be a silent auction.  Lots of amazing gifts have been donated by many of the local businesses here in town.  People can come bid on these items.  All of the funds that we raise will be donated to World Central Kitchen and the great thing about World Central Kitchen is that 100% of the funds raised go directly to feeding people in need.”  Prizes will be awarded to the best appetizer, main, and dessert.  There is no cost to participate.  If you cannot attend, you can still make a donation, says McFarland.  “If you’re unable to attend the event, you can go to www.potluckforpeace.com.  We have a button there on the website where you can directly donate to the World Central Kitchen if you are unable to attend but still would like to donate.”  Bring a chair or blanket. Park at the Civic Center and a shuttle will transport you to Parker Ranch.
