Portions of Rabun County Now Considered in Extreme Drought

The latest report from the United States Drought Monitor shows that recent showers have not improved the drought status of Northeast Georgia, as more counties are now considered to be in extreme drought, including a portion of Rabun County.

According to the latest report that was released last Thursday, the entire southeastern portion of Rabun County, including Tallulah Falls, Lakemont, Tiger, and south Clayton are now experiencing an extreme drought after only receiving an estimated total of 0.84 inches of rain last week, and a total of 2.04 inches of rain at this point in the month. North and Western Rabun County are still considered to be in a severe drought.

For the rest of Northeast Georgia– all of Stephens, Banks, Franklin, and Hart Counties are considered to be in an extreme drought, while portions of Habersham, Jackson, Madison, and Elbert are experiencing extreme drought conditions.
