Political Signs Popping Up in Clayton

With early voting right around the corner, local campaigns are cranking up their efforts to make their voice heard in the upcoming City elections. With two contested city council races and the race for mayor, campaign signs have popped up all over the City of Clayton.

City Marshall Scott Crane says that the code was changed in July to address the issue of temporary signs. Marshall Crane says the new code says that each piece of property in the city is allowed a maximum of two signs, and that the landowner could be cited in certain cases.

Crane said that signs are also not permitted in the right of way of any highway or road, and that permission must be granted on private property.

The Marshall said he has yet to receive any complaints about signs, and has not had to remove any signs from public or private property.
