Piedmont to move to New Athens Location

Piedmont College announces that they will be moving to a new location in downtown Athens. The college has plans to enter into a lease-purchase agreement for the college’s campus on Prince Avenue. At the same time, Piedmont College will be leasing space in a location that will soon be announced.  Many of Piedmont’s almost 500 Athens campus students are working adults who overwhelmingly prefer to pursue their college degrees online. In recent years, Piedmont has transitioned many classes and courses to an online or hybrid format to meet the needs of these working adults. As a result, the college requires about half the space it needed a decade ago when all learning occurred in traditional classrooms.  “Since we opened our first campus in the area nearly 25 years ago, Piedmont College has been committed to the Athens-Clarke County community. And we’ll be here for another 25 years,” said Piedmont President James F. Mellichamp. “However, the demands of our students are changing, and investing in a different facility will give us greater flexibility to meet these demands.”  The move is tentatively scheduled for January 2021. Piedmont College students, faculty, and staff will experience no interruption in their normal activities.
