Next Steps for New Water and Sewer Authority

The current Clayton Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority discusses the recently created Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority and what the next steps are for the transfer of power.

It was only briefly discussed during the current water and sewer authority’s meeting Tuesday morning, as authority member Butch Darnell said the commissioners will make sure that the involved municipalities know what to do next.

“The county will be contacting all the different cities and let them know to be thinking about who they want to put on there, and then we’ll line up those appointments.”

Water and sewer authority member Randy Speed wondered if attending a meeting of the current authority would be beneficial to potential members of the new authority.

“It would be nice if whoever they are going to appoint could come to a couple of meetings before being appointed,” said Speed. “It might give them a little insight.”

Darnell said he anticipates it will take a couple of months for the involved cities to choose their representative to the new authority.
