New Work Detail Started This Week

A new prison work detail started in the city of Clayton this week.

A female work detail from the Lee Arrendale State Prison in Alto began work on Wednesday.

This follows the Whitworth Detention Center in Hart County changing to an all female facility, and both the city of Clayton and Rabun County no longer utilizing work details from that facility.

Clayton City Manager Cissy Henry said that there is one major upside to utilizing the work detail from Habersham County.

“They’re here for longer periods of time since its closer, and there’s more of them,” said Henry. “We’ve got 8-10 people instead of the 5-6 that we had before.”

Travel time is included in the detail’s work day, so less travel time is more time working in the city of Clayton.
