New Safety Protocols for Pick Up at Rabun County Schools

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and Rabun County Schools have introduced new safety protocols for the 2022-2023 school year.  School Resource Officer Lisa Thompson tells what motorists should do if they are picking up kids off of Boggs Mountain Road.  “This year the gates are opening at 2:45pm and we are asking people not to sit on the bridge.  We want to keep this open for emergency personnel in case anything were to happen.  They have opened up parking at the Rabun County Arena in the lower parking area or at the Rabun County Recreation Department where you can sit and wait but we just don’t want anybody here.  The Sheriff’s Office and State Patrol will also be patrolling these areas.  If you don’t mind just going to those places and sitting there and waiting, the gate will open at 2:45pm.”  You are not allowed to park and wait on Boggs Mountain Road prior to the gates opening. This causes traffic congestion and prompts other vehicles to pass on the wrong side of the road, which could eventually lead to an accident.  Additionally, the school is not letting cars park on top of the bridge entering the high school gate.
