Near Drowning on the 4th

On the 4th of July, the Oconee County 911 center received several calls reporting a drowning at the “YMCA” beach on Lake Hartwell. Callers reported a male had jumped off the end of a dock into approximately 6 foot of water and had not resurfaced. Firefighters & Paramedics from Oconee County and Clemson University arrived on scene within 7 minutes to confirm a single male victim was still under water. He had been spending the afternoon on the dock swimming. He was quickly removed from the water and lifesaving treatment was begun. He was quickly transported to Oconee Memorial Hospital by Clemson University Fire & EMS. The patient was then transported by ground to Greenville Memorial Hospital for more advanced treatment.
