Multiple Prescribed Fires across Chattahoochee National Forest

On Thursday, March 16, 2023, multiple prescribed fire operations will occur on four burn units located across all three Ranger Districts in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Fire managers will use low-intensity fire to remove hazardous fuels such as leaf litter, dead vegetation, and debris to improve wildlife habitat.  The Chattooga River Ranger District will apply prescribed fire operations to the 177-acre Tugalo Village prescribed burn unit located south of Tallulah Gorge State Park in Habersham County.  The Blue Ridge Ranger District will apply prescribed fire operations to the 1,523-acre Cliff Ridge prescribed burn unit located approximately 10 miles SW of Blairsville, Ga. in Union County.  The Conasauga Ranger District will apply prescribed fire operations at two locations, the 26-acre Buffalo prescribed burn unit located approximately 7 miles NE of Cisco, and two areas totaling 23 acres on the Sumac unit approximately 3 miles NE of Crandall, Ga., to remove logging slash and debris for future planting.  Find more info about how the Forest Service in Georgia manages the land with prescribed fire, and discover ways to stay in the know with all our planned burn projects at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/conf/fire.
