Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Monday marks the national celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Each year, on the third Monday in January, the day honors the American clergyman, activist, and Civil Rights leader, reports The National Day Calendar.  Dr. King was born on January 15, 1929, and died on April 4, 1968. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience.  Many schools, businesses, and government offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, for the national holiday. While President Ronald Reagan signed the established observance into law in 1983, Martin Luther King Jr. Day was first observed as a U.S. federal holiday in 1986.
