Man Steals Vehicle, Alcohol

A man is arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle and alcohol from a local business.

According to reports on file with the Clayton Police Department, on Saturday, a man later identified as fifty five year old Charles Terry Roebuck of Clayton allegedly took one bottle of vodka without the knowledge of the clerk at the ABC Package Store on Highway 441 in Clayton.

The report states that when Roebuck attempted to leave, his vehicle was out of gas. He came back into the store and asked the clerk if he could borrow money for gas. The clerk declined, and that, Assistant Police Chief Andy Strait said, is when Roebuck became violent.

“He demanded the keys to the clerk’s vehicle, and when he told him no, he grabbed another bottle of booze by the neck and drew back in an aggressive manner and came at the clerk.”

Roebuck allegedly took a second bottle of vodka and the clerk’s vehicle, leaving his own. Officers identified Roebuck from information found in his vehicle.

Earlier this morning, officers with the Clayton Police Department and deputies with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office surrounded Roebuck’s residence and made entry, where he was allegedly waiting with a knife.

Strait explained that Roebuck was tased four times before being apprehended.

“Finally, officers were able to deploy what’s called a drive stun to the buttocks of the suspect,” said Strait. “He then surrendered the weapon and was taken into custody.”

Roebuck is charged with Armed Robbery, Felony Theft by Taking, and Aggravated Assault.
