Locals Reach Out To Help Friend Fight Cancer

A group of Rabun County residents including Woody Blaylock are reaching out to help a local friend fight cancer…

“A friend of mine named Elwood, his real name’s Mitchell O’Shields, he’s a close friend, and he got cancer, colon cancer and it spread to his liver. His brother had colon cancer first, and then his wife had breast cancer. Elwood’s 39 years old, got 3 kids, I just felt like I needed to do something for him and try to help out. A bunch of friends have come together, and we’re just trying to throw a tournament to help our friend.”

Blaylock says this is the second year for the Golf tournament…

“Last year we raised, I think it was, 3020 something dollars. Had a golf tournament, sold drinks, sold pizza, had some betting holes, and got lots of donations from local restaurants, about 15 to be exact. We got great prizes, it’s gonna be a fun day,and we need more teams.”

The 2 man team scramble Tourney will take place at the county golf course this Saturday with an entry fee of $50 per person. If you would like to participate, you can contact Woody Blaylock at 706-490-2494.
