Lightning is suspected of killing a Man in Mountain City 

Lightning is suspected of killing a man in Mountain City over the 4th of July holiday weekend.  The Rabun County Emergency Management Agency reports that on the afternoon of Saturday, July 2, 2022, at approximately 3:35pm, Rabun County E-911 received a report of a male subject in his 30’s that had possibly been struck by lightning at a residence on Black’s Creek Drive in Mountain City.  Upon arrival, crews reported a male down on the ground, unconscious and unresponsive, beside a contracting van with bystanders doing CPR.  Crews reported a hole in the driveway approximately 6”-8” from the subject’s feet that appeared to be a possible lightning strike.  Rabun County EMS transported the man in critical condition to Mountain Lakes Medical Center in Clayton.  Subsequently, the man succumbed due to the injuries sustained in the incident.  The name of the subject is being withheld due to this being an open Coroner case.  The subject was taken to the State Medical Examiners Office to determine the final cause of death.
