Lap Pool in Habersham County Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center reopens

Repairs have been completed on the lap pool inside the Habersham County Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center and it is open for business. Habersham County Parks and Recreation Director Brooke Whitmire said an inspection by Habersham County Environmental Health Monday (today) allowed the pool to be reopened with no further action needed. The pool was closed Sept. 20 due to issues with visibility. Work by county staff and a contractor in the subsequent weeks has led to its successful reopening. “We are excited to announce the lap pool will reopen to the public today,” said Habersham County Manager Alicia Vaughn. “I personally wish to thank Mike Bramlett and his staff for completing the pool repairs and upgrades with the assistance of our vendor partner, Pip’s Pools. I am very proud of our whole Parks and Rec team. I also appreciate the support of the commissioners throughout this project. The health and safety of our children and citizens that use the pool are and will remain our top priority.” The normal schedule for the lap pool will resume immediately with scheduled events being held as planned. “While our normal operating hours are 5:30am to 8pm Monday through Thursday, 5:30am to 6pm Friday, and 8am to 3pm Saturday, it is worth noting that we are in the middle of swim season,” Whitmire said. “We do house the high school swim team, Piedmont University swim team, and a youth swim team, so the lap pool is pretty busy from about 3:45 to 8pm daily, but we do try to leave at least one lane open if possible.” Whitmire said accommodating lap swimmers who do not want to be there during swim teams practicing is the reason for the earlier opening hours in the morning. The approximately 600 Habersham County residents with paid all-access memberships to the facility will receive an automatic extension of their service. That extension should be noted to accounts within the next week or so.
