Janet Vaughn of Clayton
Janet L. Vaughan of Clayton , Ga. who was born November 22, 1928 in St. Louis , Missouri , passed away on Monday August 1 , 2016 at Mountain View Health Care Center after a prolonged illness.
Janet was the daughter of Major General and Mrs. Harry H. Vaughan of Alexandria , Virginia whom she lived with many years. General Vaughan served this country during three wars and was Military Aide to President Harry S. Truman from 1945 to 1953. Janet graduated from William and Mary College in Virginia in 1950 and then attended the Penn. Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia for two years perfecting her skills as a sculptor. In the 1960’s her sculpture of a three headed dog was selected to be placed near the top of the Episcopal National Cathedral in Washington , D.C. For over 35 years she worked as a commercial artist in Washington until retiring in the early 1990’s .
Janet is survived by her brother , David M. Vaughan of Rabun County who served as Magistrate Judge for this county from 2011 to 2015 her sister -in-law , Viola M. Vaughan of Rabun County , three nieces Karen V. McManus of Germantown, Tenn. , Jennifer L. Vaughan of Charleston , South Carolina and Rebecca M. Vaughan of Kennesaw , Georgia , plus a grand – niece and grand – nephew.
Her ashes will be interred with her parents in V.A. with a subsequent memorial service in Clayton, Ga. at a presently undetermined date.
