IRS scam resurfaces in Rabun

According to law enforcement, an old scam involving the Internal Revenue Service has resurfaced in Rabun County.

Of course, scams are no stranger to Rabun County, but this one, in particular, has residents handing out their private information such as their Social Security number and their date of birth which scammers can use to commit identity fraud.

The scammer calls the victim claiming to be with the IRS. Then the predator asks the victim to reveal different proofs of their identity.

According to police reports, several Rabun County residents have received calls of this nature within the last week.

Law enforcement wants you to know that no credible government agency will randomly request such intimate information without first citing a reason.

Should you receive a scam call of this nature, report the incident to your local authorities and never give out personal information.
