Increased Fire Danger in Northeast Georgia

The National Weather Service in Greenville and Spartanburg, South Carolina has issued a special weather statement regarding an increased fire danger from 11am through 8pm on Monday, April 5, 2021, across extreme northeast Georgia, including Rabun County.  Very dry air will persist across northeast Georgia with temperatures rising well into the 70s across much of the area and a few locations reaching near 80 degrees, relative humidity values should fall to between 20 and 25 percent for much of the afternoon. A few locations could see minimum humidity values in the upper teens at times. Southwest winds will be fairly light at less than 10mph, but with a few low-end gusts possible at times. These conditions will combine with dry fuels and brush to increase fire danger across extreme northeast Georgia.  Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
