Increased Fire Danger

The National Weather Service has issued an increased fire danger in effect from noon on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, through early this evening across extreme Northeast Georgia, including Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart, and Elbert counties.  Temperatures this afternoon should rebound another 3 to 5 degrees in most areas over those observed on Tuesday afternoon. The continued warming, and persistent dry air in place across the region, will permit afternoon minimum relative humidity values to fall into the 20 to 25 percent range for several hours. Although winds will remain light, drying brush and other surface fuels will make it easier for fires to start and spread.  Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
