Important Dates for Dec. 6th Runoff

Here are some important dates for the General Election Runoff on December 6, 2022.  Early Voting in person begins on November 28, 2022, and runs through December 2, 2022, Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm.  November 28, 2022, is the last day to submit an absentee ballot application.  On the ballot will be the race for United States Senate with Republican Herschel Walker vying against Incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock.  During the November 8th election, Walker received 48.52% of the vote; whereas Warnock amassed 49.42%, which was not enough for either one to outright win the election.  Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver received 2.07% of the vote and will not be on the ticket for the runoff.  In Georgia, in order to be declared the winner in an election, a candidate must receive at least 50% plus one vote. If that does not take place, under Georgia law, the race automatically goes to a runoff between the top two vote-getters.  Additionally, there has been confusion surrounding who is eligible to vote in a runoff election. Anyone who is registered to vote in Georgia can vote in state, local, and federal runoff elections. Even if you did not vote in the general election, you could vote in the runoff.  However, if you were not registered to vote by November 7, you will not be eligible to vote in the runoff election.  The runoff election is on December 6, 2022, and polls will be open from 7am to 7pm.  All voting in Rabun County takes place at the Board of Elections Office at 184 South Main Street, Suite 102 in Clayton, in the lower level of the Rabun County Health Department.
