Hurricane Micheal will impact North Georgia

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Micheal is now a Category 2 hurricane with winds exceeding 100 miles per hour and will be making landfall in Flordia by the day’s close.

However, although the prominent eye of the storm will be miles south of Panama City, Hurricane Micheal’s effects will still be felt in portions of Central and North Georgia according to the National Weather Service.

Tropical Storm Watches have been extended across South Georgia including Savannah, meaning conditions are “favorable” for tropical storm conditions to develop, and they will according to Meteorologist John Wetherbee.  Those watches are likely to be upgraded to WARNINGS for tomorrow and Thursday.

Rabun County will likely see some action from the storm late Wednesday through Thursday morning. The heaviest rain and strongest wind will remain across the southern portions of Georgia, but Rabun County should receive anywhere from 3-5 inches of rain with strong wind gusts ranging from 25-30 mph.

The Rabun County Office of Emergency Management is urging residents to heed caution and start making preparations to secure your safety now.

Some possible hazards could include flooding, fallen trees and landslides from the substantial rain.
