Hundreds vote Early in Rabun County on First Day

Hundreds of Rabun County residents voted early on the first day of the runoff for Georgia’s two U.S. Senate seats.  Rabun County Elections Supervisor Tammy Whitmire gives the numbers.  “Well, the first day of Early Voting went wonderful.  We had 400 people vote the first day.”  Early Voting continues through Dec. 31, adds Whitmire.  “The dates and times we are open from Dec. 14-18, is the first week.  Then we are open Dec. 21-23, is the second week and then Dec. 28-31 is the third week.  It will be 8:30am until 5pm each day.  We want to remind everybody that due to the holidays our Saturday voting will be on Dec. 19, from 9am until 4pm.”  Whitmire says everyone voting early is encouraged to follow COVID-19 guidelines.  “We ask people to please wear a mask if you have one, stay six feet apart, and be prepared the weather has turned a little cold, so you need to dress warmly because you may have to stand outside for about 15 or 20 minutes, which is the average wait time.  So, be prepared for that.  Make sure that you have an appropriate coat and some gloves to keep you warm while you are standing in line.”  Early Voting takes place at the Rabun County Board of Elections Office in downtown Clayton.  Election Day is Tuesday, January 5, 2021, from 7am until 7pm at the Rabun County Civic Center in downtown Clayton.
