HEMC: ‘Progress has been slowed by impassable roadways’

According to the director of Habersham EMC, progress on restoring power to consumers has been slow due to the road conditions.

Nicole Dover, Director of Strategy Execution at HEMC, told WRBN/WGHC News via e-mail that, “as of 5:27 p.m. Sunday, approximately 4900 meters are impacted by outages. This is down from the 6000 meters from earlier today.”

In Rabun County, 2885 meters were affected and HEMC crews have been working through the night with assistance in restoration efforts from Diverse Power, Pike Electric, Snapping Shoals EMC, Walton EMC and Washington EMC.

Dover said progress has been slowed by impassable roadways and weather conditions but advised the public to please avoid downed lines and treat all as if energized, to avoid injury.
