Heating Assistance Applications Begin Today

Ninth District Opportunity, Incorporated, announces a program to help heat the homes of the elderly.

Brandie Potts with Ninth District Opportunity says households in which every member is 65 years of age or older may call their office at 706-782-3704 beginning tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. to apply for assistance with their home
heating bill.

Potts says that in order to qualify, one must meet some income requirements.

“A one person home can make up $22,990 per year, and two people $27, 449,” said Potts.  “It is the federal poverty guidelines, and most people who are on a fixed income do qualify.”

Those applying for assistance must present verification of age, verification of all income received in the past 30 days, verification of citizenship and their most recent home heating bill.

No walk-ins are accepted.
