Hazardous Weather Outlook for Rabun County

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina, and the mountains and foothills of Northeast Georgia, including Rabun County for Monday, August 1, 2022.  Numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop again this afternoon and evening, with heavy downpours and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning the primary threat. Localized flash flooding will be possible if multiple storms track over the same locations. One or two of the storms could become severe with damaging wind gusts. The storms should move east and taper off early this evening. However, during the pre-dawn hours Tuesday, another line of thunderstorms with strong gusty winds may approach from the north and northwest and move into the mountains along the Tennessee border.  A localized risk of excessive rain and flash flooding will accompany any thunderstorms that develop over the mountains again on Tuesday, particularly in any locations that receive heavy rain today.
