Hazardous Weather Outlook for Rabun County

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina, and Northeast Georgia, including Rabun County for Thursday, March 2, 2023.  Rain will become more widespread tonight across the Western Carolinas and Northeast Georgia.  A few thunderstorms are possible overnight, with cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds, and torrential downpours accompanying any storm that develops.  A strong cold front is expected to move into the forecast area by Friday afternoon.  Instability and shear parameters will be sufficient for the development of scattered strong to severe thunderstorms, which will move quickly across the forecast area from west to east.  Damaging winds appear to be the primary threat, with a few weak tornadoes the secondary threat.  Severe weather will continue through late Friday evening before moving east of the forecast area.  Strong, potentially damaging winds are possible on Friday night and early Saturday morning.  These winds may be strong enough to knock down a few small trees or power lines and may cause damage to some structures.
