Hazardous Weather Outlook for Rabun County

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Western North Carolina and Northeast Georgia, including Rabun County.  A cold front will cross the area Thursday night, February 16, 2023, into early Friday, February 17, 2023, bringing the potential for locally heavy rainfall, mainly across the mountains of southwest North Carolina and Northeast Georgia. 1-2″ of rainfall can be expected, with isolated totals nearing 3″ possible in these areas.  Isolated minor flooding will be possible.  In addition, isolated thunderstorms could produce occasional cloud-to-ground lightning.  Winds will increase behind the cold front Friday afternoon through Friday night.  Gusts of 30-45 mph will be possible across the higher terrain generally above 3500 feet. Even stronger gusts will be possible on the high peaks and ridge tops.
