Hazardous Weather Outlook for Rabun County

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina, and portions of Northeast Georgia, including Rabun County.  Deep subtropical moisture will shift over the region on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, ahead of an approaching cold front.  Periods of heavy rainfall are expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning.  A threat of localized, minor flash flooding may evolve, especially along south-facing ridges.  Additionally, a few thunderstorms could occur, producing cloud-to-ground lightning strikes.  The threat of minor flash flooding may persist in some areas until precipitation ends on Thursday.  Some area rivers may continue to rise into early Friday, possibly reaching the tops of their banks.
