Habersham Man arrested for Attempted Arson

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announces that 23-year-old Michael Jurado has been arrested on charges of first-degree arson, second-degree criminal damage to property, and simple assault under the Domestic Violence Act. The incidence occurred around 5:49pm on April 16. The 1,000-square-foot structure is located on Crane Mill Road in Cornelia.  “The suspect poured gasoline throughout the residence and threatened to set it on fire, according to the victim,” said Commissioner King. “Fortunately, the suspect did not ignite the flammable liquid and was arrested on scene.”  Jurado is being held at the Habersham County Detention Center. Commissioner King’s Fire Investigation Division assisted the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and the Habersham County Emergency Services with this matter.
