Habersham Co. Deputies recover Vehicle reported stolen from Gwinnett Co.

Following a brief vehicle pursuit Thursday morning, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office recovered a Ford F350 dually pickup truck reported stolen from Gwinnett County. “Dispatch gave us a BOLO, which is Be On the Lookout, for a vehicle all over the roadway and at one point was in the wrong lane of travel” on Ga. 365, said Habersham County Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Seeley. “I set up at 385 and 365 and as the vehicle went by, I paced the vehicle at 82 mph,” Seeley said. “It was weaving within its lane,” Seeley said. “I initiated a traffic stop and the subject did not acknowledge any lights or siren.” Habersham County Sheriff’s Office HEAT Sgt. Kris Hall assisted Seeley with the pursuit. “Sgt. Hall came around,” Seeley said. “We boxed the vehicle in and got it to a stop. At that point, the vehicle accelerated heavily around Sgt. Hall and initiated pursuit.” Hall utilized the PIT Maneuver to spin the truck out on Ga. 365 northbound at Jess Kinney Road just before Tom Arrendale Interchange. The driver, 29-year-old Uriel Silva Martinez of Tucker was taken into custody and taken to the Habersham County Detention Center.  He is charged with theft by receiving stolen vehicle, fleeing and attempting to elude, driving under the influence, failure to maintain lane, speeding, no license, open container, seatbelt violation, and obstruction. There was minor damage to the truck and minimal damage to Hall’s patrol vehicle as a result of the PIT Maneuver, so Georgia State Patrol Post 7 is investigating that aspect. Seeley had contact with the truck at 11:15am and the pursuit ended three minutes later. The truck was stolen from the parking lot of a The Home Depot store in Gwinnett County.
