Habersham Authorities Warn Travelers of Officer Impersonation

Habersham County authorities are warning not only Habersham residents, but everyone who travels to and from Habersham, of someone believed to be impersonating an officer.

One incident of this was reported last week on Georgia Highway 197, just passed Habersham Central High School in Mt. Airy. According to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, a male subject was driving a black Ford Crown Victoria with red flashing lights when he allegedly pulled the citizen over and asked for their driver’s license.

Authorities say the male subject went back to his car then came back to the citizen’s car and advised the citizen that their driver’s license was suspended and that the citizen was going to have to go with him. The report from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office says the citizen felt that something was wrong and told the male subject that they were going to call their parents to come get the car and asked him to call for another officer. That was when the male subject told the driver of the car that he pulled over, that he had received a call, and needed to leave.

Anyone with information should call the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 839-0550 or Habersham County 911 at (706) 778-3911.
