Gov. Kemp announces SOLVE Program will now serve More Students

On Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, Georgia Governor Brain Kemp made an announcement about the SOLVE program.  “I’m excited to announce that the SOLVE program will now serve students with disabilities ages 5 to 22, regardless of their family’s income. SOLVE will provide financial assistance to qualifying families in the form of a “SOLVE Scholarship.”  Scholarships are awarded to families who meet income and approved activity requirements and have children or young adults aged 5-12, or up to age 22 for students with qualifying disabilities, enrolled in a school system primarily providing virtual learning, where 50% or more of classroom instruction is virtual for all grade levels kindergarten through 7th.  SOLVE Scholarships can be used at licensed child care learning centers, family child care learning homes, and providers with an approved day camp exemption. Other types of providers may be approved for students with a qualifying disability.  The Scholarship will be good for three months but may be extended if the school system continues to offer a primarily virtual learning model.  Families may receive a SOLVE Scholarship for any eligible child.  The program is part of the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) funding allocated to Georgia through the CARES Act and is in response to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.  SOLVE is administered by the Childcare and Parent Services (CAPS) program located within the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).  Learn more at http://www.decal.ga.gov.
