Fuel Truck Driver killed in Crash on U.S. 76

A 54-year-old Franklin, North Carolina, man died around 6:15pm Sunday, October 2, 2022, in a single-vehicle collision on U.S. 76 in Oconee County.  He was driving an 18-wheeler fuel truck that overturned near Spy Rock Road, just west of Westminster.  He died at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.  An autopsy will be scheduled to assist with the death investigation.  His manner of death is classified as accidental.  The driver was in transit from a fuel depot in Belton, South Carolina, back to Franklin, North Carolina.  Fuel leaked onto the highway causing a shutdown.  The highway reopened at 9am Monday, October 3, 2022.
