Fraudulent Telephone Solicitation

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fraudulent telephone solicitation.  On May 14, 2020, a Clayton resident contacted the Sheriff’s Office regarding a fraud.  She said that she was contacted by a young man claiming to be an acquaintance and being held in jail on a crime.  The young man said she needed to contact another individual to help him post bail.  The young man then gave a case number and hung up.  She was then contacted by a man claiming to be an attorney, who requested she send $4,500 via FedEx for bail.  The Clayton resident stated that she began to question the legitimacy due to the delivery of payment.  She asked where the attorney was located and then he hung up.
