Foxfire Mountaineer Festival this Weekend

A festival to celebrate some of this area’s heritage is taking place this weekend.

The Foxfire Mountaineer Festival is going on from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. this Saturday at the Rabun County Civic Center and Clayton City Hall, including the field that separates the two.

The Director of the Foxfire Mountaineer Festival Tonya Welch explained the focus of the event.

“It’s just to remember a time gone by and to teach our young ones about where they come from and what our heritage is here.”

The event will feature music, games, competitions, crafts, and demonstrations all day long on Saturday.

Welch said she expects it will be a great morning and afternoon.

“It should be a very fun busy day for everybody,” said Welch. “We have a little something for everyone between the competitions, and we have lots of prizes, and trophies, and ribbons, and we also have the pageant going on.”

Welch says there is an entry fee of $5 per person or $20 per family.
