Flowery Branch Road Bridge over I-85 to close January 6

As part of the I-85 Widening, Phase 1 project, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) construction partners will close the Flowery Branch Road Bridge over I-85 to perform bridge demolition and replacement on Monday, January 6, 2020, for approximately 180 days. Flowery Branch Road will be closed to thru traffic from Apple Grove Road to Lilly Stem Drive. Temporary signage will divert northbound traffic on Flowery Branch Road to Spout Springs Road and southbound traffic to Braselton Highway.  Flowery Branch Road Bridge is the final bridge replacement in the I-85 Widening, Phase 1 project, the first Major Mobility Investment Program project to break ground. The project adds 26 new lane-miles by widening both directions of I-85 from two to three lanes between I-985 in Gwinnett County and SR 53 in Jackson County and replaces three I-85 overpass bridges (Spout Springs Road, Jesse Cronic Road, and Flowery Branch Road). All three structures are over 50 years old. Drivers are advised to obey posted speed limits and traffic control measures inside the project limits. The GDOT is committed to providing a safe, seamless, and sustainable transportation system that supports Georgia’s economy and is sensitive to both its citizens and its environment.
