Flooding threat persists, EMA suggests preparedness

With Burton, Seed and Rabun lakes close to nearing full pool elevation, local EMA/SAR officials are advising Rabunites who reside in low-lying areas to go ahead and make preparations for flooding.

According to North Georgia’s Lake Resource Office based in Lakemont, all of the gates on Lakes Rabun, Burton and Seed are up at this time. But that is subject to change depending on the rain.

With weather forecasters predicting the incoming rain will deposit an additional four inches in the next 72-hours, it’s possible flooding could occur according to lake resource officials

The lake elevations are always subject to change, depending on the weather conditions. But individuals who may live below the dams and those with boats and water-related equipment on the lakes and facilities should always stay alert to changing conditions and be prepared to take the necessary steps to protect their property.

Georgia Power officials said you can monitor lake levels online and stay up to date with any elevation changes.
